Pet-Friendly · South Padre Island
Bring the dogs. Seriously, bring the dogs.
Athena Ares is one of South Padre's largest pet-friendly vacation rentals — six 2-bedroom suites that welcome dogs, two-minute walk to a dog-friendly beach, and a courtyard built for the kind of trip the whole family (four legs included) actually enjoys.
Why pet owners pick Athena Ares.
Most South Padre rentals say "pet-friendly" and mean "one small dog, $400 fee, please don't." We mean it for real — well-behaved dogs are welcome in any of our suites with a reasonable per-pet fee, the courtyard has shaded outdoor space, the beach two minutes away allows leashed dogs, and we've yet to have a dog cause any trouble worth remembering.
What it includes
What makes the property work for pets.
Travertine tile floors throughout (no sandy carpets, no muddy paws on rugs), screened-off outdoor space for the dog who wants to lounge while you swim, and a host team that genuinely likes dogs and will probably offer them a treat at check-in.
- Up to 2 dogs per suite welcome with prior approval
- Travertine tile floors throughout — easy clean-up, no carpet anxiety
- Two-minute walk to dog-friendly Gulf beach access
- Outdoor restrooms by the pool — no tracking sand or sand-covered dog inside
- Quiet streets and easy walking around the property neighborhood
- Local vet, groomer, and pet supply store recommendations on arrival
- Pet beds and bowls are not provided — bring your own (or we can refer a delivery service)
The details
Dogs on South Padre, by the rules.
Most South Padre Island public beaches allow leashed dogs (6-foot leash) and require pet owners to clean up after them. Dogs are not allowed on the pool deck, in the pool, or in the hot tub at Athena Ares — for hygiene and insurance reasons. Indoor crating is fine while you're out for dinner. A few SPI restaurants have dog-friendly outdoor patios; we'll share the list at check-in.
Local network
Local pet resources.
If something comes up while you're in town, the local network is small but solid:
- Local veterinarian (24-hour emergency contact within 30 minutes)
- Mobile groomer for the post-beach bath
- Pet supply delivery from a local store and online (chewy ships overnight to SPI)
- Dog-friendly restaurant patios — yes, there are several
- Dog walker / pet sitter referrals if you need to leave the dog for a non-dog activity
- Daycare and short-term boarding if you want a day off
Logistics
Pet fee, deposit, and the rules.
We charge a flat per-pet fee that covers the extra cleaning. The refundable security deposit is held during your stay and released after check-out, assuming no damage. Aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, and dogs that aren't house-trained are not welcome — please be honest during inquiry, we'll be honest back.
Frequently asked
The questions we get the most.
How many dogs can we bring?
Up to 2 dogs per suite with prior approval. Larger groups (multiple suites) can bring proportionally more — tell us during inquiry.
Are there breed or size restrictions?
We don't have a flat breed-ban list, but very large or high-energy breeds we evaluate case-by-case. Tell us about your dog during inquiry — name, breed, age, temperament. It's quick.
Can dogs go in the pool or hot tub?
No — dogs are not allowed in the pool or hot tub. Health code and insurance reasons. The pool deck is also not a dog-lounging area; please keep dogs in your suite or the perimeter outdoor space.
Are cats allowed?
Generally yes, with the same rules as dogs. Tell us during inquiry.
What's the pet fee?
A flat per-pet fee per stay. The number changes a bit seasonally and by length-of-stay; we quote it during inquiry.
What if my dog has an accident inside?
It happens. Travertine tile is forgiving — clean it up, let us know, and there's no extra charge unless it's a recurring issue or impacts the next guest's stay.
Ask about bringing the dogs.
Send us your dates and a quick note about your pet (name, breed, size, temperament). We'll confirm and quote the per-pet fee.
